Unlock Falun
Falun is more than a mine. It is stories, flavours, forests and centuries of history layered into one place.
Falun Unlocked creates small, personal experiences that reveal the town from the inside.
Discover Falun beyond the obvious
We are building a collection of experiences rooted in Falun's World Heritage history, its food traditions and the stories that shaped this town. Some will be historical walks. Others will explore hidden neighbourhoods or bring local producers to the table.
What they all have in common is perspective.
We show Falun the way locals experience it, through stories, places and moments that are easy to miss if you only pass through.

Every place has stories
Some are well known, others almost forgotten.
Here we share a few of the stories that shaped Falun and the region around it. These stories are also the inspiration behind the Falun Unlocked experiences that are on the way.

The Skutskär laboratory: A pioneer in Swedish industrial research
In 1903, Stora Kopparberg established a laboratory at Skutskär, an early and groundbreaking research environment in the Swedish cellulose industry.

Falun's town hall: The tavern, the dungeon and the queen's grain warehouse
Witch trials, jailbreaks, executioners and a town cellar with 'unusually large' liquor sales. The story of Falun's town hall.

The Kaldo process: Swedish innovation in steelmaking
In the 1950s, Stora Kopparberg developed a new method for producing steel using pure oxygen. A Swedish innovation that attracted international attention.
From training to the first experience
I'm currently training to become a certified guide. In the meantime, we've quietly launched the first Falun Unlocked experiences. Follow the journey, the training and the stories I find along the way.
Follow along on social media if you want to follow the journey in real time.
