Midsummer's Day, 1687
Step straight into history. It's midsummer in Falun and deep inside the copper mine the unthinkable happens. A massive collapse that should have claimed lives, yet miraculously not a single person perished. It was the day every miner had left to celebrate, and that is exactly where your evening begins.
A walk through history
We gather at the edge of the old mining area for a walk through Elsborg's historic timber neighbourhood. This is where the miners lived, toiled and on rare occasions celebrated, among the Falun-red facades. We move through the quarters and bring the stories to life: the people in the shadow of the mine and the struggle for a decent life in the heart of Sweden's treasure chamber.
The taste of Bergslagen
We leave the daylight behind and gather around a long table in a cellar by the river. Here the story continues through a carefully composed three-course dinner, where each serving has a direct link to the food culture of the 1600s and the larder of Bergslagen.
The meal is a tribute to genuine craftsmanship, from the silver of the lake and the herbs of the meadow to the berries of the forest. We serve dishes that reflect both the hardship of everyday life and the rare glow of celebration, where food history and symbolism are woven together between bites. This is no ordinary guided tour, it is an evening to see, listen and taste your way through history.
What's included
- Guided walk through the historic Elsborg quarters (approx. 60 min, 1.4 km)
- Three-course dinner inspired by 17th-century Bergslagen
- Storytelling and food history throughout the evening
Food & drink
Dinner is served at restaurant Plock, where restaurateur Ted Stöffling has composed a three-course menu deeply rooted in 17th-century Bergslagen. Period-typical ingredients such as pickled fish, local meat and berries, but in a modern and sophisticated interpretation.
This is not a historical recreation of the simple meals of the past, but a tribute to the flavours and the craft. Between courses we deepen the experience by telling the story of the food's symbolism and its actual place in history.
Drink pairings (add-on)
The Gruesome
SEK 329Heavy, dark, and unapologetic. A local stout, a shot of aquavit, and a light lager. This is the drink for those who want to taste Elsborg in the glass.
The Delightful
SEK 295Lighter, brighter, a touch more refined. Cider, a carefully chosen red wine, and a sip of something sweet for dessert. This is the evening as seen from the bourgeois side of the river.
