About Falun Unlocked

We show Falun from the inside

The best way to understand a place is not through a guidebook, but through the people who live there. We know the streets, the alleys, the landscapes and the stories of Falun. Falun Unlocked was created to share that local perspective through small, personal experiences.

Our story

From Sri Lanka to the Great Copper Mountain

It all really started just before the pandemic. We had been travelling around Sri Lanka and met a couple of amazing local guides who took us through Fort Galle and other places. They didn't just share the sights but also their own stories and their pride in the place they called home. Somewhere between the spice markets and colonial facades an idea was born: what if we could offer something similar back home in Falun?

That together with a deep interest in flavours and food culture gave us plenty of ideas. But covid put everything on hold. We couldn't meet anyone and most of our plans were shelved. The ideas were left to ferment, much like good sourdough.

Then in February 2026 Andreas read an article in the local newspaper about new guides being trained for the Falun World Heritage Site. The curiosity sparked instantly. The love of history and pride in our hometown have always been there. And so here we are. Now we're building what we dreamed about on the other side of the world, but at home.

About us picture

Our philosophy

Stories before facts

A good story lasts longer than a date. Our experiences revolve around people and events, not lists of dates.

Everyone is welcome

Falun Unlocked is for curious visitors, locals and anyone who wants to experience Falun beyond the obvious highlights.

The local perspective

We live here. We know the streets and the alleys. That makes a difference.

Small groups by design

Every Falun Unlocked experience will be intentionally small. Small groups create space for conversation, storytelling and a more personal atmosphere. Instead of large tour groups, guests will discover Falun together in a smaller circle.

Our team

The people behind Falun Unlocked

We are Andreas and Catrine, based in Falun.

Portrait of Andreas in Falun

Andreas Sollenbrant

Founder and guide

Andreas read an article in the local newspaper in February 2026 about new guides being trained for the Falun World Heritage Site and knew right away it was the right path. A deep pride in Falun and Dalarna has always been there, along with a love of history, particularly the modern-era history of Stora Kopparberg and its impact on Swedish industrial heritage. Now he's training to become a certified guide, while Falun Unlocked has quietly launched its first experiences.

Event coordinator

Catrine is the creative force behind Falun Unlocked. She's the one who comes up with the ideas, spots the possibilities and sketches out new experiences. Andreas then turns the visions into reality. With a genuine interest in food, culture and Falun's history, she's always finding new connections to explore.

Follow the journey

From training to the first experience

I'm currently training to become a certified guide. In the meantime, we've quietly launched the first Falun Unlocked experiences. Follow the journey, the training and the stories I find along the way.
